Wanderlust Series: Travel Savvy - Tips and ideas for the frugal traveller

Image
Barcelona Street Travelling abroad is more affordable than ever! There are more budget airlines and a wider selection of accommodation options to choose from. However, so many travellers are still falling into the trap of expensive trips, by not spending the time to shop around for cheaper alternatives. A little research could reduce total trip costs by two thirds and extend the time spent abroad. Follow these research tips to travel for less: Beware Discounted Flights Larger flight agents may offer a discount for booking early, but it may not always be the cheapest option. Ten percent off an expensive flight may be no saving at all, in fact you could end up paying much more than you need to.  Be sure to check online for the best price. Check multiple websites and different flight routes, to make sure you have the best deal. Choose A Destination Wisely Think about all of the costs incurred whilst abroad, not just the flights to a country but also the expense...

Wanderlust Series #2 - Amsterdam

Image
Hello! Welcome to the second part of the Wanderlust Series. This post is about my experience in the popular city of Amsterdam, located in the Netherlands. My last trip here was in December 2013 and was intended as a short city break. We actually travelled midweek and honestly, it made no difference (other than it saved us some cash!). The Christmas decorations were up and there were small C...

Wanderlust Series #1 - Puerto Rico

Hello! This is the start of an exciting series in which I have named the Wanderlust Series, hoping to post once a month. I am kicking off with the beautiful country of Puerto Rico, located in the Caribbean, in which I was honoured to visit in June 2014 with the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and Air Europa . I had the chance to see the history, experience the natural wonder of the Bio Bay, see some of the extensive rainforest and visit many wonderful hotels all by travelling around the island in just 5 days! It was jam packed and I would obviously advise to spend a lot longer there but there really is so much to do on the fantastic little island.  Map from  mapscitys.tk Flying time from the UK - 9hrs direct / 14ish indirect Airlines - direct Norwegian Air / indirect - Air Europa Currency - US Dollars Best time to visit - I went in June and the weather was great, it wasn't cold but we have some cloud and rain in places. Lonely Planet have a comprehensive guide to weathe...
