Wanderlust Series #7 City Break - Barcelona

Image
The next in line to the Wanderlust Series, a blog thread in which I detail and advise on places I have visited, is the amazing city of Barcelona. It's been on my 'to do' list for ages now and since 2018 was the year in which I turned 30, I decided it was the perfect place to celebrate. And I was right. Travel Flights from the UK can be really inexpensive if you choose the right time of year to visit. We visited in early June and booked in advance so paid under £100pp for return fares. Barcelona was super chill and by far the easiest place to get about. Easier than the London underground for sure. We purchased Hola Barcelona travel cards for €22pp before we arrived and it covers a full 72 hours worth of travel. With the exception of a taxi because we got drunk and missed of the trains back to our apartment...yolo. This card covered our travel to and from the airport by train, which is a huge bonus when you think about other cities! Food & Dr...

Wanderlust Series #6 City Break - New York, USA

Image
Hey! This is an exciting post to have written. I was lucky enough to travel to New York in October this year with my lovely uni friend, Lydia. New York has been on my wish list for years and years but it always seemed a little out of reach. So being given the opportunity to go, I jumped at the chance.  Lydia and I travelled from London Heathrow with Virgin Atlantic for 4 nights. We got early morning flights out and this was perfect as New York are 5 hours behind the UK so it meant that on arrival we could still go and explore for a few hours. Our return flight was a night flight, 22:30. This again, was perfect as we got a whole day in the city. I found that 4 nights/5 days was actually a really good amount of time to explore. You may already be familiar with some of the attractions available, however there is so much more. I'll break this post down into sections to make it easier to guide you through the trip... Eats & Drinks Personally, I found food h...

Wanderlust Series #5 City Break - Budapest, Hungary

Image
What a  beautiful  city I recently travelled to Budapest for a hen weekend. It was amazing. The weather was beautiful, the city was stunning. I can't wait to go back! With the time of year it was, there were a few hens/stags going on, but no trouble. Everyone was super happy!  We had a great time, busy busy with our little schedule but it was so much fun. I couldn't keep up with the drinkers though. *sorry, not sorry* I do like a cup of tea in bed and i'm not cut out for hangovers anymore. Hehe. Here's a low down of what I got up to... Accommodation 7 Seasons Apartments - Budapest We checked in at our apartments, which were amazing. As there was a total of *17 ladies*, we had three apartments between us. The apartments were spacious, clean and modern. Each had a little balcony, lovely for early morning tea looking out over the city.  These apartments were in the centre of the city and walkable from many attractions.  What did we...

Wanderlust Series #4 City Break - Berlin, Germany

Image
Hello! It's been a little while since I last posted in this series, namely because I haven't been anywhere to post about...until now! So, welcome back to the Wanderlust Series, number three. We are visiting Berlin, Germany. This was my first visit to the city and it won't be my last. I loved it there and would encourage as many people to go as I can! In just four days we crammed in as much sightseeing as possible, went to a gig, and did a little shopping. For me, the time booked wasn't enough, an extra couple of days wouldn't have done any  harm and we would have pretty much seen everything.  I flew with Ryanair from London  Stansted , which took just 1 hour and 20 minutes. On arrival, we purchased 4 day  Berlin Welcome Card  with the information desk, costing €34.50 each. This covered travel on the overground, underground, trams and busses. Great value to for money, not only covering transport but provides discounts to many attractions. It is also high...

Wanderlust Series #3 - Thailand

Image
Hello! Welcome to the third entry of the Wanderlust Series. This post is about my experience in Thailand. It's not a long one i'm afraid!  I wasn't a cool earthy backpacker...just a bog standard tourist visiting my little brother on his travels.  (Check out the colour difference!) So our trip started in Bangkok, we had booked direct flights with Eva Air (who were fab) and just our first night in the city. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any of Bangkok but I can say the hotel and the food were amazing! The next day, we took a domestic flight to the popular area of Ao Nang, Krabi, where my brother was staying. Ao Nang was great. The beaches were beautiful, there were plenty of places to slip away and explore or just chill out. I'm not personally a beach person so didn't spend loads of time there but for beach people I can imagine it would be almost perfect. We hired kayaks and explored the famous rocks, finding secluded mini beaches. And a horr...

Wanderlust Series #2 - Amsterdam

Image
Hello! Welcome to the second part of the Wanderlust Series. This post is about my experience in the popular city of Amsterdam, located in the Netherlands. My last trip here was in December 2013 and was intended as a short city break. We actually travelled midweek and honestly, it made no difference (other than it saved us some cash!). We stayed 3 nights in a small B&B near Vondelpark, just a short walk from the Hard Rock Café and just a 10 minute walk from 9 Straatjes which is an array of shops, cafés, bars and cultural wonders. Some amazing artwork and graffiti is tucked behind some of these streets and according to my other half...some great coffee too. Don't get the cafés and coffee shops confused...they are naughtily different. There's so much exploring to do in the city, if you go in the summer you will be able to do lots; we travelled in the winter and it was definitely cold but a little magical too. The Christmas decorations were up and there were small C...

How I Got Through My First Year at University

Image
Every student has their own reason for going to university. At 26, I was certainly older than the rest and at first, I really felt it. My reason for choosing to study stems from a dwindling initial career choice. I was a travel agent for 6 years and worked on and off in the industry for a further 2 years, however, the wonderfulness of the internet was starting to take over and I just didn't enjoy my job any more. I felt that every sale was a battle and in the end, the customer was not getting the best deal and I wasn't earning enough money. On my days off of work, I tended to sit on my sofa with numerous cups of tea, watching the likes of Dr. Spencer Reid and the BAU (my favourite: Criminal Minds). I would rather watch Crimewatch than Corrie, a gory murder case file programme over Lorraine. So that was it, after being made redundant in 2013 and working bitty jobs, I made a life changing decision and applied to university. In March 2014, I received my acceptance letter and ...
