What a beautiful city

 I recently travelled to Budapest for a hen weekend. It was amazing. The weather was beautiful, the city was stunning. I can't wait to go back!

 With the time of year it was, there were a few hens/stags going on, but no trouble. Everyone was super happy! 

 We had a great time, busy busy with our little schedule but it was so much fun. I couldn't keep up with the drinkers though. *sorry, not sorry* I do like a cup of tea in bed and i'm not cut out for hangovers anymore. Hehe.

 Here's a low down of what I got up to...


 Accommodation


7 Seasons Apartments - Budapest

We checked in at our apartments, which were amazing. As there was a total of *17 ladies*, we had three apartments between us. The apartments were spacious, clean and modern. Each had a little balcony, lovely for early morning tea looking out over the city. 
These apartments were in the centre of the city and walkable from many attractions. 


What did we do?

 360 bar

Really cool bar with amazing views over the city. We sat for hours drinking cocktails and enjoying the views. They also serve food, which was a) really cheap and b) really frickin' good! 


 Locked In - Escape Game

 Oh my. This was so much fun. In teams we were separated into different rooms and we basically had to work together and use all of our brain power to get solve puzzles/riddles to escape. We got 'The Bank Job' was was super hard, we almost made it out but not quite! 

 River Cruise - Danube

 This was a great way to see the two side of the city, Buda and Pest. Buda, which is on the West,  is more hilly and has a lesser population. Pest, on the East side is flatter and much busier. Pest is most likely the side you will stay. Whilst cruising the river, an array of pretty buildings can be seen and it was great for photo opps.
River cruises are really cheap and don't need to be booked in advance, you can walk down to the river and pick one up from any vendor. They work out to be about £3.



Szechenyi Thermal Baths

This is a pretty cool place to chill. There are various pools to choose, inside and out. The spa offers treatments and massages, should you like one. Mine was a bit strange but the other girls seemed to enjoy theirs! It's in the city and can be reached by taxi. 




Drinking

 It became apparent, that I am a lightweight and can't keep up with the seasoned drinkers! There were some cool bars and venues around the city, I experienced a couple of them but because I like my bed and turn into an 80 year old pensioner when on holiday, I didn't get to experience all of them! *hanging my head in shame* 
A lot of the cool bars are called 'romkoscma' which means 'ruin pubs' in Hungarian. There are a lot of them about and they are basically like pop up bars in derelict buildings. The one I visited was pretty cool , it was very shabby and chilled out. They had a shish bar inside and lots of strange little rooms. Drinks are mega cheap, with a pint averaging about £1. I was on rum most of the weekend and depending on what you choose, that can be pretty cheap too. 

Food

Hungary is good at food. I had some amazing meals whilst in Budapest. By a million miles, my favourite restaurant was at VakVarju, Pest. The food was incredible. For snacks and lunches, there are an array of kebab shops, coffee shops and your usual big brand invaders like Starbucks, Costa, McDonalds etc. I would recommend the hummus bars, especially the one below 7seasons!



Getting Around

Budapest is actually bigger than I expected. Although our apartment was pretty central, I still had to get a taxi or two. Taxis are common and can be flagged down easily, however always agree a price before getting in. I did find some taxi drivers quite rude and a couple of times we were dropped quite a distance from our destination and charged more than we agreed. Be careful! 
Trams operate throughout the city but we didn't use them, they appeared to be more on the outskirts of town. 
A lot of the attractions are walkable if you book accommodation centrally. I found the walks to be pretty easy, plus you come across some hidden places along the way.

Shopping

Shopping is actually pretty awesome, although I wouldn't intentionally travel to Budapest to shop. There were many familiar names such as Hugo Boss, MAC, H&M and so on. Alongside the big names, were many quirky little in-betweeners and gift shops. 




Personally, I loved Budapest. I certainly didn't experience the whole city so it's back on the go-to list to finish off!

2019 The year to make a difference. Promises to myself: I am on a make-up ban: I will only buy what I need to replace. Other than that, I will use what I already have. Wanderlust Series #1 - Puerto Rico

Hello! This is the start of an exciting series in which I have named the Wanderlust Series, hoping to post once a month. I am kicking off with the beautiful country of Puerto Rico, located in the Caribbean, in which I was honoured to visit in June 2014 with the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and Air Europa . I had the chance to see the history, experience the natural wonder of the Bio Bay, see some of the extensive rainforest and visit many wonderful hotels all by travelling around the island in just 5 days! How I Got Through My First Year at University

Every student has their own reason for going to university. At 26, I was certainly older than the rest and at first, I really felt it. My reason for choosing to study stems from a dwindling initial career choice. I was a travel agent for 6 years and worked on and off in the industry for a further 2 years, however, the wonderfulness of the internet was starting to take over and I just didn't enjoy my job any more. I felt that every sale was a battle and in the end, the customer was not getting the best deal and I wasn't earning enough money. On my days off of work, I tended to sit on my sofa with numerous cups of tea, watching the likes of Dr. Spencer Reid and the BAU (my favourite: Criminal Minds). I would rather watch Crimewatch than Corrie, a gory murder case file programme over Lorraine.
